Review: It’s All About The Matt!

Review: It’s All About The Matt!

About 3 months ago I started a search where I made it my mission to find the best MAC Studio Fix foundation alternative because let’s get real – spending R330 for a bottle of foundation does burn the pocket the bit! There’s a lot of inexpensive foundation products on the market these days – surely one of them must do the trick?! I knew well ahead that if I was going to look for something cheaper it wouldn’t necessarily be the best, after all I was looking for an alternative and not a dupe.

I began researching some MAC Studio Fix alternatives and came across many products to have claimed that it was the best alternative, I managed to grab one of them so I could see for myself and since then I’ve also received a few other foundation products which I’ve also put to the test. Here they are:

GOSH X-Ceptional Wear Foundation:

This foundation offers semi-good coverage. It is said to be a soft and creamy foundation and I noticed that it doesn’t leave that thick/cakey feel on your skin. When applied your face almost feels wet so its recommended that you use a powder afterwards. It is Vitamin-E enriched and perfume-free. It comes in 7 different shades – I picked the color “Chestnut” and it was neither too light or dark for my skin plus it’s a 35ml bottle which is 5ml more than most liquid foundations. What I didn’t like about this product is that I generally have a tendency to touch my face a lot (bad habit I know!) so that means by the end of the day I have these patches all over my face from where I touched.

{NEW} Essence All About Matt! Foundation:

I have previously used this foundation before, but again, it didn’t offer that long-wear coverage that I was looking for. What caught my eye was that this is an oil-free foundation that is meant to give your complexion a matt effect and should last up to 12 hours. As I do have a fairly oily complexion I still needed to use a powder with this product. It comes in 6 different shades and is an overall good budget-friendly foundation.

Untitled-1{NEW} Essence Pure Skin Anti-Spot Mousse Make-Up:

This matt mouse is perfect for complexions where skin impurities are present. It’s Clearderm Complex and antibacterial properties help to fight spots and blackheads and is dermatologically tested. I like that you get a good matt coverage whilst still doing good for your skin. I just recently started using matt mouse foundations for the first time and so far I’m pleased with this one. It only comes in 2 shades, I got matt beige (the lightest of the two) which appears to be just a tone too light but I actually don’t mind as I always go one shade lighter when winter approaches.

{NEW} CATRICE 12hr Matt Mousse Make-Up:

I think I never really considered using matt mouse foundations as I always thought they would dry out my skin. This matt mousse has a bit more of creamier consistency than the Essence Pure Skin Matt Mouse. It spreads nicely and evenly across your face and you really don’t need to use a lot of it. It doesn’t dry out your skin at all and leaves a smooth powdery finish, however I do still use a tiny bit of powder just to finish off my look. This comes in 4 different shades.

So who’s the matt’est of them all? I’m going to give the CATRICE 12hr Matt Mousse my thumbs up, although I’m torn between you and Essence Pure Skin Anti-Spot Mousse as you both offer 2 very different quality advantages. Can we call it a tie?

Have you tried any of these yet? Let me know your thoughts below!
