Essence Eyebrow Gel

Essence have recently come out with an eyebrow gel which is said to accentuate the brows and has a powdery finish. If its anything like the Anastasia Beverley Hills Dipbrow Pomade then the new Essence eyebrow gel might just be the dupe we needed.

The Essence Eyebrow Gel was one of the products that I was especially excited to try out as having “on-fleek” eyebrows is all the rage in the beauty industry these days. The cult-classic Anastasia Beverley Hills Dipbrow Pomade is used and trusted amongst many beauty bloggers and vloggers so it was great that our favorite affordable makeup brand came out with their own version.

I was quite surprised to find that the texture of the product was quite dry. I know that it is said to have a powdery finish but I felt that it may have been a bit too powdery. This also resulted in the product not being as pigmented as I’d hoped.

I used the Essence precise eyeliner brush to apply the eyebrow gel as that was the closest thing I had to an angled brush. The product was very difficult to pick up with the brush and I had to dip the brush in the pot a few times to get the eyebrow gel on the brush.

Unlike the ABH Dipbrow which has more creamy texture, this didn’t give me the precise application I was hoping for and as such, I couldn’t achieve those sharp defined lines. As you can see in my before/after shots, the end result doesn’t actually look so bad however it took a bit longer to apply. Having said that, this might not be the best product for you if you’re in a hurry.

Since it’s not so pigmented, this also means that your chances of messing up your eyebrows are also greatly reduced which is perfect for those just starting out with eyebrow filling. For only R57.95 I’d say give it a try.

If I’m honest I don’t think the Essence Eyebrow Gel would be a dupe for the ABH Dipbrow as the textures are completely different. I’m hoping that Essence will work on improving the formula to make it a bit more creamy for easier application and also include a 2nd shade for our fair-haired girls. Currently only available in brown.

I agree the end result isn’t bad at all, but it seems a bit time consuming, so I’d give it a skip I think.

Doing my eyebrows is something that has always terrified me and so I’ve never tried, I probably wouldn’t have a clue how to even start ^^ Even though this doesn’t sound the “perfect” product it looks like something good enough I could try to get started haha! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hey Julia

Well you’ll never know if you don’t try! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plus there’s really nothing to be terrified of. There’s even been times that I’ve experimented at home with different brow products and I’ve ended up looking like a clown haha!

If I can give you any advice, choose a brow colour a shade or 2 lighter than your hair colour, this will make it look way more natural. Also if you end up buying this and it doesn’t work for you, then you could also try the eyebrow shadow or the good ol’ eyebrow pencil (but the one with the spoolie at the end)
